  • 1/2 cup rice
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup almonds, blanched and chopped
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/4 tsp rose water
  • A few saffron strands
  • 1 tbsp rose petals, for garnish


  • Rinse the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain the water and keep the rice aside.
  • In a heavy bottomed pan, heat the milk on medium-high heat until it comes to a boil.
  • Add the soaked rice and reduce the heat to low. Cook the rice for about 20-25 minutes or until it is soft and the milk has thickened.
  • Add the sugar, almonds, cardamom powder, and saffron strands to the pan. Stir well and let it cook for another 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the rose water and mix well. Turn off the heat and let the kheer cool down.
  • Once the kheer has cooled down, transfer it to a serving bowl and garnish with rose petals.
  • Serve the Almond and Rose Kheer chilled.
