  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste

  • Wash the chana dal in water until the water runs clear. Soak the chana dal in enough water for 3-4 hours or overnight.
  • After soaking, drain the water from the chana dal and transfer it to a blender or food processor. Add green chillies, ginger, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli powder, and salt to the blender. Grind the mixture into a coarse paste without adding any water.
  • Transfer the chana dal mixture to a mixing bowl. Add finely chopped onions and chopped coriander leaves to the mixture. Mix well.
  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan on medium flame.
  • Wet your palms and take a small portion of the mixture. Roll it into a ball and flatten it slightly to form a vada.
  • Gently slide the vada into the hot oil. Fry the vada on medium flame until it turns golden brown and crispy.
  • Once the vada is cooked, remove it from the oil with a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining chana dal mixture.
  • Serve hot chana dal vada with coconut chutney or tomato ketchup.
