How To make Char Minar Biryani? | Instant Char Minar Biryani Recipe

Char Minar Biryani is a popular and delicious rice dish from Hyderabad, India. It is a layered biryani, which means that the rice and the meat are cooked separately and then layered together to create a flavorful and aromatic dish. The name Char Minar comes from the iconic Charminar monument in Hyderabad, which is a symbol of the city’s rich heritage and culture.

To make Char Minar Biryani, you will need the following ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Basmati rice
  • 1 kg chicken or mutton, cut into medium-sized pieces
  • 4-5 onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 4-5 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp garam masala powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Oil or ghee, for cooking
  • Saffron, soaked in 1/4 cup of warm milk
  • 2-3 tbsp rose water
  • 1 tbsp fried onions (optional)
  • 2-3 tbsp chopped fresh coriander leaves

Instructions

  • Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  • In a large pot, heat oil or ghee and fry the sliced onions until golden brown. Remove the onions from the pot and keep them aside.
  • In the same pot, add the chicken or mutton pieces and fry them until they are golden brown. Add the ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Mix well and fry for a few minutes.
  • Add the yogurt and mix well. Cover the pot and let the meat cook on low heat for about 30 minutes or until it is tender and cooked through. Remove from heat.
  • In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add salt. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the boiling water. Cook the rice until it is about 80% done. Drain the rice and keep it aside.
  • In a large pot, layer the cooked meat at the bottom of the pot. Sprinkle some fried onions and chopped coriander leaves on top of the meat.
  • Add a layer of rice on top of the meat. Sprinkle some saffron milk, rose water, fried onions, and chopped coriander leaves on top of the rice.
  • Repeat the layering process until all the meat and rice are used up. Make sure that the top layer is of rice.
  • Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and cook on low heat for about 20-30 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked and the flavors have melded together.
  • Once the biryani is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
  • Serve hot with raita, salan or any side dish of your choice.

  • You can use a mix of chicken and mutton if you prefer.
