  •  2 tablespoons oil

For the idli batter:

  •  2 cups parboiled rice
  •  1 cup urad dal
  •  Salt to taste

  • To make the chicken keema, heat oil in a pan and add chopped onions. Saute until the onions turn translucent.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies to the pan and saute for a minute.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  • Add minced chicken to the pan and mix well. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, and salt to the pan and cook for 10-15 minutes.
  • Once the chicken is cooked, turn off the flame and let it cool down.
  • To make the idli batter, wash and soak the parboiled rice and urad dal separately for 4-5 hours.
  • Grind the urad dal to a smooth paste and transfer it to a bowl.
  •  Grind the soaked rice to a fine paste and add it to the bowl with urad dal paste.
  •  Mix both the pastes together and add salt to the batter. Leave it to ferment for 6-8 hours.
  • Once the batter is fermented, mix it well and pour a ladleful of batter into each greased idli mold.
  •  Add a spoonful of the prepared chicken keema on top of the batter in each mold.
  • Steam the idlis in a steamer for 10-12 minutes or until they are cooked through.
  • Once the idlis are cooked, let them cool down for a few minutes before taking them out of the mold.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.

  •  You can add chopped coriander leaves to the chicken keema for extra flavor.
  • You can also add chopped vegetables like carrots, beans, and peas to the chicken keema for added nutrition.
  •  You can adjust the spiciness of the keema by adding more or less chili powder and green chilies.
  •  You can also add grated coconut to the idli batter for a more authentic South Indian taste.
  •  Make sure to grease the idli mold well before pouring the batter to prevent the idlis from sticking to the mold.
  •  You can also use a pressure cooker or an Instant Pot to steam the idlis if you don’t have a steamer.
