For the marinade:

  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – as per taste

Method:

  • Clean and wash the chicken pieces thoroughly. Drain the water and keep them aside.
  • In a bowl, mix together the ingredients for the marinade – red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and salt.
  • Apply this marinade to the chicken pieces and keep them aside for 30 minutes.
  • In a pan, heat oil and add the chopped onions. Saute until they turn golden brown.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and green chillies to the pan. Saute for a minute.
  • Add chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and garam masala powder to the pan. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the marinated chicken pieces to the pan and mix well with the masala.
  • Cook the chicken for 10-15 minutes on medium heat until it is browned and tender.
  • Add the tamarind pulp to the pan and mix well. Add salt as per taste.
  • Add a cup of water to the pan and mix well. Cover the pan and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes.
  • Once the chicken is cooked, turn off the heat and add curry leaves to the pan.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.

  • You can adjust the spiciness of the dish by adding more or less red chilli powder and green chillies.
