Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 1/4 cup yogurt

For the filling:

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil

For the topping:

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Nigella seeds (optional)

Instructions:

  • To make the dough, mix together the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl.
  • Add in the oil and mix until the mixture resembles bread crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the water and yogurt.
  • Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
  • While the dough is resting, make the filling. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add in the onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies and sauté until the onions are translucent.
  • Add in the ground meat and cook until browned.
  • Add in the coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
  • Preheat your oven to 450°F.
  • Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
  • Take one portion and roll it out into an oval shape.
  • Place a spoonful of filling in the center of the dough.
  • Fold the sides of the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal it.
  • Roll out the stuffed dough gently, making sure the filling doesn’t spill out.
  • Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with coriander leaves and nigella seeds, if using.
  • Bake the naan on a baking sheet for 8-10 minutes, until golden brown.
  • Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
  • Serve hot with raita or chutney.
