  • 500 grams mutton

  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder

  • Wash and clean the mutton pieces and set aside.
  • In a pressure cooker or a heavy-bottomed pan, heat oil over medium heat.
  • Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  • Add chopped onions and fry until they turn golden brown.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and chopped green chilies and fry for a minute.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and fry until they turn soft and mushy.
  • Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Mix well.
  • Add the mutton pieces and mix well so that the spices coat the mutton well.
  • Add a cup of water and stir well.
  • Cover the pressure cooker with the lid and let it cook for 4-5 whistles or until the mutton is cooked.
  • If cooking on the stove, cover the pan with a lid and cook on low heat for 45-50 minutes or until the mutton is tender.
  • Once the mutton is cooked, open the pressure cooker and stir well.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or naan.


  • You can marinate the mutton pieces in yogurt and spices for a few hours before cooking. This will make the mutton more tender and flavorful.
  • If you want a thicker gravy, you can blend a few pieces of cooked tomato and onion and add it back to the curry.
